                LIBRARY ASSISTANT
                The International University of Grand-Bassam is urgently seeking an individual to fill one Library Assistant position in the “Library” Department.

                The International University of Grand-Bassam (IUGB) is a private, publicly supported institution established within the framework of a public-private partnership. IUGB offers an American curriculum in English.                 QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED
                All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item. An English test will be administered prior to interview.

                Two year university degree and a minimum of one year experience in related field
                Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office suite and other Library software
                Excellent customer service skills and good communicator in writing and orally both in French and English
                Effective organizational and time management skills

                 Job description
                Job Purpose
                Assist library patrons in the proper use of Library resources, equipment and support services.

                Duties:
                • Works at the Circulation Desk and provides information to library patrons.
                • Answer general information enquiries, including guidance in using the library catalogue, electronic resources and basic IT use.
                • Place book requests for patrons.
                • Charge, discharge and renew library materials; issue overdue notices.
                • Search and download catalog records according to established procedures.
                • Enter and retrieve information into/from the automated acquisitions system.
                • Create and update patron files.
                • Record identifying data and due date on cards to issue library materials.
                • Inspect returned materials for damage, verify due date.
                • Sort materials according to subject classification and return them to shelves.
                • Trace and claim missing library materials.
                • Suggest appropriate departmental procedures and policies to the Library Manager, including safety and security.
                • Participate in the annual inventory of all the possessions of the unit.
                • Maintain the audiovisual equipment used within the library.
                • Perform general clerical duties.
                • Coordinate office communication flow.
                • Process orders for books and publications.  Receive and inspect new library materials and equipment.
                • Collect materials to be placed in the Reserve Collection.
                • Perform other related duties as assigned.

                Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
                • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills in both French and English
                • Knowledge of the library cataloging system.
                • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and other library software.
                • Effective time management and organizational skills.
                  • Ability to use independent judgment in making decisions.
                  • Willingness to ask when things are not clear.
                  • Excellent customer service skills, and detail oriented.

                Minimum Hiring Standards
                Two years University degree, and a minimum of one year relevant experience (in a university library environment).
