POSITION SUMMARY
Provide support in the facilitation, implementation and adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to Cooperative Business Unit (CBU) staff and farmers which are part of Blommer’s Sustainable Origins cocoa supply chain with its Implementing Partners (IP) in Côte d’Ivoire. Ensure alignment of sustainability programs with Blommer’s Sustainable Origins’ approach to cocoa productivity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify agronomy-relevant needs and provide adapted ongoing training to Lead Farmers and IMS cooperative Managers on the spot
- Conduct frequent visits to program locations to supervise FFS trainings and ensure they are adequately conducted by Lead Farmers, thus leading to an increasing GAP adoption rate of participating farmers in the programs
- Ensure establishment and maintenance of demonstration plots in order to have the optimal showcasing effect across the operational areas
- Participate in various IP training events to gain insight on content and understand strengths and weaknesses of the curricula and propose new ideas
- Coordinate with relevant authorities (e.g. CCC, ANADER, CNRA, WCF) to ensure high farm rehabilitation rate, especially with regards to access to seedlings and grafting techniques (in case ban lifted) as well as CSSV interventions
- Oversee CBU nurseries and farmer land preparation to ensure high planting success rate
- Provide advice on soil fertility to CBUs and farmers
- Monitor and help CBUs to monitor yields and deliveries per hectare to ensure traceability of beans is provided
- Provide feedback on crop development i.e. collect observations from program sites and other areas as opportunistic
- Report regularly on activities and observations
- Conduct annual farmer surveys
REQUIREMENTS
- Education: University degree in agriculture or related fields
- Experience: Experience in rural smallholder agriculture. International experience a plus Knowledge
- Thorough knowledge of GAP including soil fertility techniques
- Field experience in food gardening from planning to harvest
- Proven training and capacity building skills
- Knowledge of certification standards is a plus Skills
- Flexible, adaptable, tolerant of heat and uncomfortable physical situations and passionate about grassroots agricultural development
- Passionate about being in the field for min 60% of the working time
- Strong facilitation and communication skills and ability to communicate to various audience
- Energetic people person, motivational and self-starter

- Fluency in French with good verbal English
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position is a non-office field position
- Extensive travel in operational areas
- Must have driver’s license
- Based in either Daloa, Gagnoa or San Pedro
