The U.S. Embassy in Abidjan is seeking an individual to fill anAlumni Coordinator position in the Public Affairs Section (PAS).
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
The Incumbent directs the programming and alumni outreach activities at the Young African Leaders Initiative Model Space in Abidjan. S/he develops, schedules, and conducts outreach programs aimed at a targeted audience of current or potential entrepreneurs. S/he works with the Public Affairs Section to ensure relevant agencies in the Mission are informed and integrated into the Model Space activities. The Alumni Coordinator will be the principal point of contact for exchange alumni who are interested in conducting workshops, digital video conferences, or training sessions in the Model Space.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
  • A university degree in American Studies, a business-related field (Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, etc.), Information or Library Science, or Education is required.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in program planning and implementation is required. Demonstrated experience with information technology is also essential.
  • Level IV (Fluency) Reading/Writing/Speaking in both English and French is required. Language proficiency will be tested.
  • Good planning, organizational, and problem solving skills as well as knowledge of business or entrepreneurship techniques are required.
  • Must have a good knowledge of U.S. political, cultural, and social structures as well as demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging technologies, including social media platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team as well as demonstrated initiative and creativity and ability to communicate effectively are also required.

SELECTION PROCESS
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.
ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  • Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  • Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
  • Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
  • Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
